Zaldívar awarded Copper Mark
In line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and following a voluntary evaluation process, Zaldívar has received the international Copper Mark, an independent verification that the company produces copper according to the highest international sustainability standards.
“We are very pleased to have been awarded the Copper Mark, as it recognises Zaldívar as a modern and sustainable mining operation. We are committed to transparently implementing best practices and constant improvement," said Julio Castillo, General Manager of Minera Zaldívar
Zaldívar is the second of Antofagasta’s operations to achieve this recognition, following Centinela which received it in July.
“We are proud that of our four operations two are now among the 13 mines worldwide that hold this distinguished recognition. This is a clear demonstration of our conviction that mining for a better future is possible," said Iván Arriagada, CEO of Antofagasta plc
The Company’s other operations, Los Pelambres and Antucoya, will shortly begin the assurance process to obtain the award.
About:
The International Copper Association (ICA) launched the Copper Mark initiative in 2017 in response to growing demands for information by investors, banks, suppliers and NGOs on the environmental, social and governance performance of copper producers.
Copper Mark has been independent of the ICA since December 2019. Zaldívar is the third mining company in Chile and one of 13 worldwide that have received this award.
